2. Cut your fabric to the desired size. The fabric should be slightly larger than the finished pouch, so that it can be turned inside out later on.
3. Place the zipper face down on the fabric, aligning one side of the zipper with the edge of the fabric. Pin in place.
4. Sew along the edge of the zipper, using a regular straight stitch or a zigzag stitch. Start at one end and sew slowly until you reach the other end.
5. Repeat step 4 on the other side of the zipper, sewing the other side of the zipper to the fabric. Make sure that both sides of the zipper are sewn on securely.
6. Trim any excess fabric from around the edges of the zipper.
7. Turn the pouch inside out so that the seams are hidden on the inside. Press flat with your hands or an iron if desired.

Required Materials (sewing machine, zipper, fabric)
Assuming you don’t have a sewing machine or experience, you’ll need to head to your local fabric store to purchase a few supplies. You’ll need a sewing machine, a zipper, and some fabric. The type of fabric you choose is up to you, but we recommend something sturdy like denim or canvas. Once you have your materials, follow the instructions below to sew your very own zipper pouch! Step 1: Assemble Your Zipper Pouch
Start by sewing together the two zipper pockets. You’ll be using the same technique you use for a basic pouch, except you’ll just be adding a zipper in place of the opening and closing at the top. Start with your two pieces of fabric, and lay your zipper down on one side (with sliders facing up). Fold over your other piece of fabric from opposite side, so that it covers both sides of the zipper (zipper should still be visible). Sew along the edge to secure in place without going through the zipper.
Step 1: Cut Your Fabric
If you’re like me, you probably have a lot of fabric scraps lying around. What better way to use them up than by making a cute little zipper pouch? This project is perfect for beginners because it doesn’t require any sewing experience. All you need is a piece of fabric, a zipper, and some hot glue.
First, cut your fabric into a rectangle. The size will depend on how big you want your pouch to be. Mine is about 6 inches by 9 inches.
Next, lay your zipper on top of the fabric, making sure that the teeth are lined up with the edge of the fabric. Hot glue the zipper in place, being careful not to get any glue on the teeth of the zipper.
Now, fold the fabric over so that the wrong sides are together and the zipper is in the middle. Hot glue along the edge of the fabric to seal it shut.
Finally, use a hot glue gun to make a little loop on one side of the pouch. This will be used to attach a key ring or clip. And that’s it! Your zipper pouch is complete. Now, use whatever you like to decorate the outside of your pouch. I chose to make a little button flower with some fabric scraps. But you could also paint the edges or sew shapes onto it. And that’s it! Your zipper pouch is complete. Now, use whatever you like to decorate the outside of your pouch. I chose to make a little button flower with some fabric scraps. But you could also paint the edges or sew shapes onto it.
Step 2: Assemble The Exterior And Interior Panels
If you’re looking for a quick and easy sewing project, a zipper pouch is a great option. Even if you don’t have any sewing experience, this tutorial will show you how to sew a basic zipper pouch.
First, you’ll need to gather your materials. For this project, you’ll need two pieces of fabric (one for the exterior and one for the lining), a zipper, and some thread. You can choose any type of fabric you like, but it’s important to use a medium weight fabric so the zipper pouch is durable.
Next, cut your fabric into two rectangles. The dimensions will depend on the size of pouch you want to make. For a small pouch, you can use 6″ x 9″ rectangles. For a larger pouch, you can use 8″ x 10″ rectangles.
Once you have your fabric cut out, it’s time to assemble the exterior and interior panels. Place the exterior panel right side up and the lining panel right side down on top of it. Then, align the top edges of the fabric and pin them in place.
Now, sew along the top edge with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Start at one end and sew all the way around to the other end. Then, zig-zag stitch along the raw edge to finish the seam.To create the pouch, you’ll need to fold in half one of the short ends and press it with an iron. Sew a straight line across that folded edge to close it up and make a casing for your zipper.Repeat this process on the remaining short end.
Next, turn your fabric right side out so that it looks like this:Now that you’re ready to insert your zipper pouches into your curtain panels, let’s take a look at how to install them! And, we’ll start by showing you what the finished panels look like.
The best way to install a zipper is to insert it into the back side of your panel, so that when you’re done, its front side will be facing out (and visible).Take your two pouches and line them up with the top edge of your curtain panel. Then, pin them in place:Sew along the top edge of both pouch pieces to secure them in that position. Then, fold under the raw edges and press them lightly with an iron.Fold over 1″ on both sides of your curtain fabric and pin down. Then, fold under another 2″ on one side only (the shorter side) and pin that down.
Step 3: Attach The Exterior Panel To the Interior Panel With Stitches
If you’re new to sewing, or just don’t have a lot of experience, don’t worry! Attaching a zipper pouch is actually a pretty simple process. Just follow these steps and you’ll be done in no time.
1. Start by placing the exterior panel of the pouch right side up. Then, take the interior panel and place it on top of the exterior panel, wrong side up. Line up the two panels so that the raw edges are flush with each other.
2. Next, use a straight stitch to sew around the perimeter of the two panels, about 1/4″ from the edge. Make sure to leave a 3″ opening at the bottom of the pouch so that you can turn it right side out later.
3. Once you’ve sewn around the perimeter of the pouch, it’s time to attach the zipper. Start by placing the zipper face down on the right side of the exterior panel. Line up the raw edges of the zipper and the panel and pin them in place.
4. Sew along the edge of the zipper, about 1/4″ from the edge. Be sure to backstitch at both ends to secure the stitches.
5 . Repeat the last step to attach the other side of the zipper to the opposite panel, making sure that both zippers are facing inwards. Make sure you leave an opening at the bottom of each side for turning.6. Next, it’s time to add a tab with a magnetic snap to the exterior panel. To do this, fold down 1/4″ along all four sides of the tab and press them in place with an iron or use a mini-iron.7. Fold over another 3/8″ along all four sides and press them down again so that you have a total of 1/2″ folded over all around. Fold this strip in half lengthwise and press it flat again so that you have your rectangle shape made out of four layers.8. Fold over one end so that the raw edge meets up with the pressed edge but do not fold this end completely in half.9. Lay your exterior panel on top of your lining panel, right side out and sandwich it between the two pieces of fusible interfacing. Iron it in place to secure it to the lining.10. Now its time to add a seam allowance along all four sides (1/2″ or 5mm). Do not cut off the magnetic snap tab yet!11. With right sides together, pin and sew around all four zippered opening edges, leaving about a 3-4″ (7-10cm) gap for turning inside out at one bottom corner of each side
Step 4: Place
If you’re new to sewing, or just don’t have a lot of experience, sewing a zipper pouch can be a great project to start with. Zipper pouches are relatively simple to make and only require a few basic stitches. Plus, they’re really useful! Once you know how to sew a zipper pouch, you can make all sorts of different sizes and shapes to suit your needs.
Here’s what you’ll need to sew a basic zipper pouch:
– Fabric (I recommend using cotton quilting fabric for beginners)
– A zipper (I recommend using a plastic zip for beginners)
– A sewing needle and thread
– A iron (optional)
First, cut two pieces of fabric that are the same size. I like to use fat quarters (18″ x 21″) for small pouches, but you can use whatever size you like. Just make sure that both pieces of fabric are the same size. Next, place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and pin them in place. Then, using a straight stitch, sew around the perimeter of the fabric, leaving a small opening for turning. I like to leave about a 2″ opening .When you are done, cut the fabric and turn it right side out. Push the corners flat with a pencil so that it makes a nice curvy little pouch. Then, using a sewing machine or hand sewing needles, sew the opening closed. That’s it! You’re finished! If you want to add in pockets for keys and such, I recommend making those first using some scrap fabric left over from cutting your lining pieces. I sewed two pockets into my pouch here: And this is what the pocket looks like from inside. You can put anything you want in your phone pouch – change, cards, makeup brushes, and more! Remember that this project only takes about 20 minutes, so you could even make several of them in one sitting
